Games won't start

Check your Hosts file

If you clicked on a stream and nothing starts after the loading spinner has disappeared.
Go to Settings and select the Hosts Actions: Test if the NHL.tv authentification bypass works
Click on Go to check if your Hosts file has been successfully modified by NHLGames.

If it shows Failure, you won't be able to see a stream until you fix your Windows Hosts file.

Open the Task Manager and kill processes

A process might still be running in the background. You will have to terminate it.
Press all together CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, your task manager will open.
Go to Processes and order processes by name, by clicking on Image Name.
Search these processes, right click on them and select End Process:

  • livestreamer.exe (or) streamlink.exe
  • mpv.exe (or) mpc.exe (or) vlc.exe (depends on which media player you use)

No video with mpv, warning "Starting stream failed" with others

If you can't get the stream to start with mpv or you get the error Warning: Starting stream failed. Make sure your player and streamer are set or try to use a different quality in settings, so it will try another stream. with vlc and mpc-hc, the cause might be a DNS issue. That means your Domain Name Server can't find the IP (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) related to our domain server. You can resolve this issue by replacing your old DNS server IP by a Google DNS. On Windows 10:

  • Right click on Windows Start Menu and select Network Connections
  • On the left side of the window, select Ethernet
  • Click on Change adapter options
  • Now you will have to determinate which adapter is your current access to the internet, the one that appears blue should be the one giving you internet access, if there are more than one blue, find the one that gives you internet by disabling one after the other (right click and disable, enable it the same way), if you loose connection that is the one you need to change.
  • Right click on it, select Properties
  • In the list, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), then select Properties
  • Click on Use the following DNS server addresses, then set the Preferred DNS server to 8.8.8.8, that's a Google DNS*.
  • Close everything by clicking on Ok and you are set.

*Google DNS, if you don't trust me you can check it out online by googling http://8.8.8.8

Use the alternate CDN (Content Delivery Network)

If a specific stream does not work, but others work, you might want to turn on "Use the alternate network". NHLGames will switch from using Akamai to Level 3.

Check your antivirus, windows defender or malware bytes

If our app is blocked by your firewall or any software protection, it won't be able to get the stream url.
Also, if the streamer (livestreamer.exe / streamlink.exe) is blocked or in quarantine it won't be able to stream it to your media player.

You might want to try a different streamer or a different version to see what it's working best for you.

Check for running background processes that did not end

If you press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and go to Processes and find a running process named:
livestreamer.exe, streamlink.exe, mpv.exe, mpc.exe or vlc.exe.
Right click on these and click on End task.
