Skyport app definitions make it possible to invoke command line tools via function calls. This abstraction layer makes it easier to reuse tools and connect outputs and inputs of the tools to create scientific workflows with Skyport.

App definitions are organized in packages, typically representing the set of all functions (that is tools) provided a by a single Linux container.
