Pairing Danfoss Ally

Hi,

I'm using a Conbee II stick in my Raspberry Pi and zigbee2mqtt is working. I see the zigbee2mqtt\bridge topic in my MQTT Explorer.

But how do I pair a Danfoss Ally radiator thermostat? The documentation says "_Push the "o" button for briefly to enter Pairing mode (can take upto 60 seconds).", but nothing happens. The antenna icon just keeps blinking on the Danfoss, even if I leave it next to the Raspberry with the Conbee stick for more than an hour.

I have multiple of these radiator thermostats and they all act the same.

What am I missing?

The only thing that I can think of, is that this happens beceuase the device it sitting on my workbench and is not (yet) actutally attached to the radiator.

IIRC from my brief time with the device, it needs to be installed on the valve for it to want to pair

I just attached it to my radiator, but still the antenna icon keeps blinking.

Only bridge information is visible in the Zigbee2MQTT log.

have you enabled "permit_join" on z2m side?? What z2m Version?

btw i get my Danfoss Ally Thermostats in a few Days for replacing my dumb Eurotronics Thermostats... when they arrived i will leave you a msg

it took 40 Seconds after first join for successfully been paired

Interesting. How can I find out the z2m version?

I I'd notice you use the 014G2461 version of the Ally. I have the 014G2460 version. Only the adapter types that are supplied differ, from what I can determine. But maybe I am wrong.

there is no sign for Version 014G2460 you use. Could this be the Problem? @sjorge

that's really weird...

coud you borrow a supported HUE Lamp from anybody? if these even not pair (and no attempts showing in Logfile) it must be your Setup.

I ordered the CC2652RB. If that works, I will return the ConBee stick.

Will update here if I have more information.

Got my new stick today and it worked instantaneously. I hadn't even enabled new devices in Domoticz yet.

So don't know what is wrong with the Conbee stick, but will return that.

meantime i had some weird behavior with one of my TRVs: it needs hours to Heat from 19.0°C to 21°C... Update to Firmware 1.18, multiple Resets & finetuning some of the Parameter didn't work :-/

Maybe the valve doesn't open far enough?

I'll install them yesterday, paired them while not yet on the radiator. Have to complete some scripting on Domoticz too to make them work. I did a small test with the one that is on the radiator and that all seems to work just fine. Especially the "running_state" variable is very useful to integrate it in my smart home.

I also have the issue that the Danfoss thermostat is not found. I have many other devices (Philips Hue, Aqara sensors, Sonoff switches) working fine but not this one. I am using Conbee2 stick with Danfoss Ally 014G2460. The exact same setup was working seamlessly with Deconz but I switched to zigbee2mqtt on a fresh Ubuntu server installation (dockerized). I replaced the batteries and restarted the device and pressed the button to pair for a few seconds until M was blinking. The valve motors calibrated as well... Also, the Conbee is in the same room as the device and a USB extender cable is in place, so I doubt it being a (potentially) bad link. And permit_join is activated.
Unfortunately, I do not even see any (debug) messages in the z2m logfiles that a new device is trying to be added but not recocgnized or somtheing similar.
Any idea where to look additionally? (I do not want to go back to deconz, I really think z2m is much better designed).

I now bought a SONOFF USB Dongle that is based on the TI Cc2652P+CP2102N chipset. All other zigbee devices were able to join, but not this one. Unfortunately, I still have the very same issue. No pairing possible, no log entry, nothing to start debugging.
If someone has an idea where I could start debugging, I very much appreciate any help.

I also have problem with Danfoss TRVs on CC2652P stick (sonoff) while didn't have issue with older cc2538 DIY router.
Effectively, TRVs works only if there are no routers involved. Same about pairing, even if TRV is reasonably close to dongle, but there is some tradrfi bulb around and it will try to go via bulb - no way it will pair. If you pair next to coordinator and them move more far away, once it tries to go via routers - end of the story again.
it works only if TRV has direct line to coordinator and no other devices around to lure with better LQI.

Hi all, I would like to give you an update after having had the Danfoss installed for over a few years not being able to connect it to zigbee2mqtt. I finally solved the issue by giving it a try again after updating to the latest zigbee2mqtt. Setup is currently zigbee2mqtt v1.35.1 dockerized on Ubuntu with Sonoff USB dongle based on the TI Cc2652P+CP2102N chipset.
The issue was that probably that I have never done a proper factory reset. The process is to reset to factory state and following pairing process by

1. allow joining in zigbee2mqtt
2. removing the battery
3. pressing the button (there is only one button) while inserting the battery for about 10 seconds (hold it while inserting).
4. release button
5. press button again for 5s to start the pairing process.
6. This should end up in a successful interview
   I am not sure whether the docs have been improved in the meantime or if I haven't read them thorougly, but now it seems to work.
   (I had no issues with routers in the same network)

I'm also having problems pairing the 014G2460, of which I just bought a ton... I'm using a Sonoff Dongle-E, and it joins but does not recognize it... And then I get 'left the network' after a minute and its gone.
Any ideas on what to do? Can I pair a Danfoss gateway and go through that?

I have a few of these paired using the Sonoff Dongle-E. They seem to be a bit tricky to pair and I haven't found a pattern to what works best. Some of them paired easily and some kept failing, leaving the network and so on. I suggest you keep trying, you might want to try to pair through Permit Join for specific routers as well. I have managed to pair all my Danfoss thermostats after fighting them for a bit.

Thanks KoalaWerewolf, I have now managed to pair one - That's some measure of success!
I paired it immediately after power on, before calibrating or mounting it on a valve - And it just worked.
Will keep experimenting.

Which coordinator do you use?
I sometimes have to try 4-5 times before I get the pairing to work... It seems to go best if I pair straight out of the box, before mounting on a valve.

It's still a scramble. One hour needed for 5 devices with Sonoff dongle. The last one, which also took the longest, was connected from the device, but z2m was faulty (and manually deleted). I then simply removed the batteries without resetting and z2m started an interview anyway and was then online.

Just keep at it, it will be fine
