When someone doesn't have snippets because they are on vacation it would be great if we could add a flag for that so they can easily be filtered out of the main list or at least called out as being empty because the person was OOO, not because they don't write snippets. This could be grabbed using Pingboard's API to avoid data-entry duplication.

The checkbox for this could be below the "make this snippet as private" checkbox.

This is also related to #7 : it would be great if you could easily mark this checkbox for the appropriate future weeks before you go on vacation. Right now that's impossible.

(I'm worried about having too many checkboxes though -- I already feel two is too many. Maybe there's a clever UI way we can say: "Write a snippet OR indicate you're on vacation this week."

btw, though I know nobody has suggested such a thing: I definitely don't want to have a separate system where we indicate vacation days somewhere else rather than on the main snippet-entry page.

We could hide all the checkboxes under a "snippet options" button, which would have the benefit of saving space in general. E.g. I think most people either use markdown or not, and don't often alternate between snippets. Something like this:

(We could put the button somewhere else and make it look different, this is just an idea.)

One thing I like about the current snippets page is that all information is open: you don't need to click on something to see if your snippet is private or not, say. I also like that there are no modals or drop-downs or hierarchical menus. Ideally we'd be able to keep both of those properties.

I think once we start having a bunch of properties exposed on each snippet like this, it's a sign that things are getting too complicated. I'm fine just keeping vacation entries as free-form entries. Maybe people want to talk about what they did on vacation!

That makes sense! I'm fine with closing this then. :)

Integration with pingboard/etc may still be nice (it would just inject a text field). So I'll keep it open. But I admin that's more of a stretch goal.
