Issue

The Rapid Needs Assessment for the Hurricane Beryl response needs certain indicators for Barbados as per SIMS Slack thread.

They need to know things like Total Population (incl % Male, % Female), Life Expectancy in Years, Under-five mortality rate, Population living in urban areas etc.

I was going to direct them to get some of the figures from GO Country Page however I can't refer them to GO for two reasons:

  1. Life Expectancy, Literacy, Poverty, Gender Inequality Index are all blank
I can see that the first two are due to Country profile> Overview > Country Key Indicator: Display life expectancy and literacy data #571 but I'm not sure why the other two are blank
  2. even for the figures that are there, the source and date are not specified. e.g. Population is given as 124,438 - and further down it says "Sources: The World Bank, UNICEF, HDR". How do I know which of these organisations the Population figure is from? And what date that population figure relates to? Even if I click through to the links in the Source section it still doesn't give details of exactly where the data for these indicators comes from.

To make this section usable we need to ensure that the data is populated and the sources/dates are clearly identifiable for each indicator.

@nanometrenat, thanks for highlighting the issue.

  1. We’ve been pulling data from the World Bank Databank, but only fetching the previous year’s data for each indicator. This has caused problems when there’s no data for the previous year, resulting in missing information. We're now working on fetching the most recent available data, which should solve this problem.

However, for Barbados, we don’t have poverty data available as seen here. The literacy rate is shown as 100% here, which doesn’t seem accurate.

For the Gender Inequality Index (GII), we’re getting data from the Human Development Reports (HDR) as mentioned here. However, this API is currently not working.

  2. I agree it’s a bit confusing, and we need to clarify each figure and its source. This will help us validate the data more effectively. We can work on improving this aspect.

Gosh that was a quick response, thanks @samshara ! Re the literacy rate being 100%, I think that is fine - it's likely to be 99pointsomething rounded up to 100, a bunch of countries do have rates that high. Thanks for checking, appreciated! Looking forward to when the fixes and enhancements come through. Cheers
