We need to set up the server. #3
Comments
Why do we need a FTP server? Also, nsd + unbound for DNS. |
Richo, I would like to get you set up on the server so we can work together to build it as we need it. It is nearly a base system still so we can build as we go with ease. Hit me up on Google Talk or on FB to get all the details together. |
Richo, Please let us know when the barebones system will be set up so we can start building on it and get this rolling. |

I am looking at doing a setup for the Debian Server we will be moving the site to. Here are my thoughts for the site
Web Server
I am debating between Apache2 and Lighttp. Leaning more towards Lighttp personally for the site, but I want full feedback here.
As of the writing on this page the votes on the FaceBook Group are at Apache 2 votes and Lighttp at 6 votes.
Database Server
I am debating between MySQL and PostgreSQL currently for this. I know MySQL more, but if Postgre is a better platform for what we are looking to do then this is what we should use.
As of the writing on this page the votes on the FaceBook Group are at MySQL 7 votes and PostgreSQL 2 votes.
Mail Server
I am going to go with a simple server for this and use Postfix unless anyone has a better idea.
DNS Server
I am obviously going to be using BIND9 for the DNS server. If you think otherwise please speak up.
FTP Server
I am thinking ProFTPD is the way to go on this, but I am open to suggestions.
POP3/IMAP Server
I am thinking that utilizing Maildir along with Courier-POP3/Courier-IMAP would be the best idea for this portion of the server.
Control Panel
I love the ispCP control panel personally, but if you all think WebMin or another system would be more beneficial, please let me know. As of the writing on this page the votes on the FaceBook Group are at ispCP 6 votes and Webmin at 3 votes.
If you have more ideas on this front, please put them here so we can get moving on the server roll out.
