Friend can't join world (infinite "connecting" screen)

I've also noticed other weirdness
1: When I type in their name I seem to get a UUID rather than the name I typed in when adding as a friend, however said UUID is not actually their UUID
2: When they add me as a friend their name and profile shows up in my friends list
3: When I invite them to join, they get a message saying I added them as a friend
4: When they try to join my online game because we're friends they get stuck in an infinite loading screen

We're using a modified version of the Re-Console modpack with some other stuff added, but we're running the same version of minecraft (1.21) and the same modpack (including versions) the only difference that might affect anything is the fact that I'm playing on Steam Deck (running Bazzite Linux)
