In MAPL3 our rule is that an import spec may specify user-defined attributes that are to be provided by the providing export.
When an import and export share a field, then the import automatically "sees" those values. But with a coupler, there must be an explicit copy of these. At first glance this should be done during the initialize() method for couplers.
