The dry run option will allow user to just scan the system's registry and/or hard drives without performing any write action. This should be presented as both a prompt option and a command-line one (--dry-run).
This would be useful on some use cases, where some drive letters are mounted network shares where users are not permitted to create arbitrary files (per policy of users' own team or company).
