an initial login to http://localhost:8080/emc-metalnx-web/ will give a 403 error, so will an initial login to emc--metalnx-web/login,

It requires the login/ with a trailing slash to get to the login page? Look at url mappings and ensure that an invalid or protected path with no auth takes you to login
