Downloaded more than 7GB of data to start the installation that ignores that but forces you to download another GB for the actual installation.
First bummer.
Then finally installation starts and runs until it says that it successfully installed.
After reboot we end up with a black screen where basically everything fails to be found.
Not even the bootable medium (where exactly did it not from until that?)
So the image is downloaded two times and after install noting works. How?

The installer downloads the latest Steam client bootstrap installer, then the latest system image. These are then installed. Not sure what you expect here but this is normal.
The installer works as expected. The system download is less than 2 GB and is only installed once. Not sure where you see 7 GB.
Does your GPU meet the requirements as described on the download page of our website? The issue you describe is consistent with an old or outdated GPU.
