I have very little knowledge

I have very little knowledge of linux and scripting, should i wait until
someone comes with apps or something like jail break, or should i read up
on some basics and beginners tuts. I can't get pass step 4 in installing
arcwelder

You probably get no benefit by installing SSH on Archos. Until something really 
useful (for all people) appears, you could meanwhile read some pdf about linux.
As soon as there will be any ported applications or something else useful, we 
will 
try to make tutorial with screenshots. :)
