The effectiveness of subtracting the auto-correlations in order to improve the signal-to-noise is predicated on the signal being noise dominated for an individual antenna. There may be science applications where this assumption fails (e.g. studies of terrestrial signals/RFI). It may be useful to optionally include the autocorrelations.
