There is no reason the script cannot update itself: the python scripts are loaded in memory and can just be overwritten with a new version while the old version is still running.
This will be less confusing for users.

Would you like me to take this on? It may be better to wait until after the new installer is written to implement - or maybe not :) Actually, I think it might be better to start this at the same time as the new installer, and 'redo' much of the code in the -script repo
