Use this template to when conducting DTR with your project partners. It’s recommended that you copy/paste this template into your own gist each time you conduct a DTR to take notes on the conversation.

Guiding Questions to Define The Relationship:

Kelley, Nico, Lauren

  1. What are your learning goals for this project? What drives us in this project?
  • Learning from pairing
  • Learning over getting everything possible done
  • Pairing/grouping for more complex and complicated concepts
  • Learning from each other's strengths

2.How do you communicate best? How do you appreciate receiving communication from others?

  • Checking in making sure we are all on the same page
  • Communicate often and clearly
  • Slack conversations get pulled into tracker/github
  • Honesty, directness
  1. How would you describe your work style?
  • Nico - visual, schemas
  • Kelley -
  1. What are your strengths? How can our strengths complement each other?
  • Lauren --> strategize things, but sometimes too much-- need to just do things, project management
  • Kelley --> organization and keeping group on track/task with what needs to get done
  • Nico --> front-end side of things, weakness -- back-endy(SQL, data heavy, iterating, etc)
  1. What’s gone well or poorly in your previous projects?
  • Not to run away with a concept that you understand but maybe other's don't fully understand yet
  • Flexibility, but verbal if you have something going on
  • Pairing and learning from eachother
  • Study rooms
  • Active communication
  • People who are very late
  • Projects that people take in a different direction without consulting the group
  1. How will we set direction and make decisions as a team?
  • Communicating
  • Trying not to
  1. What do you need (resources, environment, communication) to do your best work?
  2. What scheduling restraints do you have? What are your scheduling preferences?
  • Lauren- commuting from Boulder- minimum of an hour that you can't do anything each day. No later than 9 ending in evening, mentor tonight.
  • Nico- Harder work earlier and then more repetetive tasks later in the day or when we start to get tired.
  • Kelley- Start to fade around 7 at night if we are working on hard work during the day... More busy work can be done later.
  1. What is your style for giving feedback? Does anything ever hold you back from giving feedback?
  2. Where do you feel you could use improvement in your technical skills, as they relate to this project? How can our team help support you in improving these skills?
  • Kelley - getting better with some of these newer testing technicques, rebasing
  • Nico - get rebasing, gaps in the rails knowledge
  • Lauren - not great at model and method testing, front-end skills!
  1. How do you want the group to solve problems when members run into issues with features of the project?
  • Coming together and trying to solve the problem as a group and then using resources from there. Check-ins hourly if we are working separately
  1. How do you know if a project is successful? How can we achieve that as a group?
  • Nico - less about the grades and more about do I feel like a stronger developer between now and the end of the project
  • Lauren - balance of feeling like I did enough things to feel like I met a standard, acheived my goals and learned how to do it.
  • Kelley - contributions are reflected in the project and not being a burden to other teammates.
