Idea: Supply ability to set configuration at code level

As the output of custom indexes will typically be handled by the websites own custom code, it makes sense to also provide the ability to set the configuration at code level (composer?) instead of just the appsettings.json. This would prevent accidental deletion which other core pieces of functionality around the site may heavily depend upon.
