Expanding CENTRAL 3D

  • After 0.3, everything was done during my holidays/free time, twofold purpose:
  1. Having fun, learning.
  2. Preparing stuff for Project 3 subject in CITM Barcelona (2020).

TOOLS USED (as of latest commit)

  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2019
  • 3rd Party Libraries used:
  • SDL 2.0.10
  • Assimp 5.0.1
  • Glew 2.1.0
  • ImGui 1.76 WIP docking branch commit 6531
  • ImGuizmo
  • MathGeoLib 1.5 (commit 1994)
  • OpenGL 4.6
  • mmgr
  • par_shapes at commit 281
  • DevIL 1.8.0
  • JSON for Modern C++
  • PhysFS
  • Optick 1.3.0

HOW TO USE

There is no formal installation process, just look around and play with it

  • Navigation:

Mouse and Keyboard controls are enabled both on UI and Scene, working on focused window only.

  • Mouse picking

Self-explainable, click on an object to select it, notice how inspector info changes, but if the object is hidden in the hierarchy you won't notice it there, open parent to see how it is selected.

  • Scene Camera:

  • Right Mouse button enables Look Around

  • Alt + Left Mouse button enables Camera Orbit

  • Mouse Wheel click enables camera Pan

  • Right Mouse button + WASD enables free movement

  • Mouse Wheel movement enables zoom

Editor camera only works when in AppState EDITOR mode.

  • Guizmo:

  • Move: Q

  • Rotate: E

  • Scale: R

Select mode on toolbar, snap / bounds resize

  • Shaders:

You can create new shaders through the project panel, right click - create - shader. Double click and edit them in the program you like (default program). I recommend Visual studio with glsl extension for autocomplete/syntax highlighting support.

ASSET IMPORT

Drop it inside window or inside Assets (or subfolders). Engine will import automatically.

DEBUG

  • Debug Features

Game Objects - Redo Octree whenever you make some elements non-static and want it to be recalculated

Head to Scene window and click DebugDraw to see available features:

  • Wireframe
  • Color Material
  • OpenGL Lighting
  • Display Octree
  • Show AABBS
  • ZDrawer

There are more options in Window - > Settings

CHANGELOG

0.4

  • Resource Manager complete overhaul (2 much to define here, will explain on web)

  • Propject panel (Create/Delete/Previews)

  • New Resources: Prefab, Scene (support for multi-scenes)

  • Event manager

  • Renderer Revamp, now centralized

  • Shader revamp

  • Skybox, environment mapping

  • Optick

  • Improved Guizmo

  • Improved overall style and main windows

  • Improved selection, mouse picking

  • Drag and drop improvements: resource to inspector, go to inspector, resource to scene, go to project...

  • Time manager improvements

  • Camera improvements

  • Own window bar through SDL_HitTest, hid windows bar

  • Gos/components are now shaved/loaded in original order

Updated:

  • Imgui
  • Imguizmo
  • Assimp

Added:

  • Optick Profiler

Eliminated:

  • Editor shader support (PanelShaderEditor). Now just double click a shader on project panel, open it with Visual Studio/Code with a glsl extension and save. Engine reimports automatically.

0.3

  • Shader pipeline to draw geometry and debug draw
  • Shader resource (save & load...)
  • Shader binary program loading
  • Shader Debug draw (normals, aabbs, octree, cameras)
  • Water Shader
  • Editor shader support (creation, realtime changes, uniform editing)
  • Guizmo
  • Framebuffer, scene in window, code adaptation
  • Time manager improvements
  • Z buffer visualizer
  • Reversed Z technique

0.2

  • Initial Structure of Resource Manager
  • Reference Counting for ResourceMesh and ResourceTexture
  • Scene serialization to file and loading
  • New import pipeline (creates own file format files in library)
  • New Time Manager (Options to PLAY STOP STEP)
  • Spatial partitioning using Octree
  • Creation of cameras
  • Frustum culling
  • AABB's
  • Project window
  • Mouse picking

0.1

  • Polished Game Object and Component Structure
  • Initial Implementation on Inspector (properties for the different components)
  • Modification of many Menus/Windows
  • Possibility of primitives creation through GameObject Menu
  • Unity-like Camera Controls

0.05

  • Libraries Integration
  • Basic Editor with Inspector/Hierarchy/Console/Menu
  • Initial GameObject and Component structure
  • Save & Load Editor Configuration
  • Load 3D Models through assimp (fbx format)
  • Load Textures through DevIL (dds and png format)
  • Docking

Innovation:

  • Shader binary program loading
  • Shader debug draw (normals, aabbs, octree, cameras)
  • Z-buffer visualizer
  • reversed-z technique
