Context: In the FP lab people were surprised by the fact that there is a link from a contribution to a github repo, where you can find even more code. All softlang team members know that there is always this kind of link from a contribution to a github repo, but the question is whether outsiders can see this fact or are provided with some guidance. For now, I think that the only guidance or help on the wiki that we offer can be found at http://101companies.org/wiki/101project and this is not enough.

Ways to fix this:

  • The Help button on any page should not change the view to the syntax for editing wiki. Instead it should show a page that explains the conceptual structure of a 101wiki page in analogy to https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Categories. A guiding picture would help here. We should create a new Wiki page called `101guide' for this. So, 101project remains the starting page that motivates the 101wiki and 101guide provides a metamodel on what information can be found at a 101wiki page and how it can be added.
  • In my opinion, there are two feasible places to put the information that is provided by the current help button. (1) Another Help button could be added at concrete edit pages such as http://101companies.org/wiki/Contribution:haskellAcceptor/edit which opens some popup or whatever that shows the syntax for editing wiki instead. (2) The information that is currently available could be completely replaced by tooltips that appear as you hover over any button at http://101companies.org/wiki/Contribution:haskellAcceptor/edit. The text 'will make text bold' would then appear as you hover over the 'Bold' button etc. I'd prefer option (2) to reduce redundancy.
